In construction and destruction they all use cranes. Cranes are usually outfitted for whichever type. Hook cranes can attach a wrecking ball to destroy a building as well as lift items by the hook to build. What you are probably seeing is a boom crane. No hook - but an elongated stretch of fabricated metal attachment called the boom which can move material that has already been lifted, into placement / alignment.

It's hard to say when you describe something as just being not like something else. A wrecking ball is kind of pear-shaped and that's it. Pretty heavy, too (1,000-12,000lb). A ball with a hook is called a headache ball. It only weighs a few hundred pounds and is used to keep the cable straight and untwisted when there's no load on it. Is that what you were looking for? You used to be able to catch a lift from a crane operator, but OSHA doesn't let you stand on them anymore.

Okay, I'm also figuring out the answers for the Gaia donation items... and so far I've figured out that we're going to get a steel knife/sword (the capital of Syria), and a set of wings (Paul McCartney's band, a crane is what you use, i.e. its a bird, too). W00t!!!! But that's all I can figure out at the moment.

ball peen hammer? Its not really used much in a building setting but hell is has ball in it and aids in doing the opposite of a wrecking ball.
