One starts with m, the other with b.
Seriously, its 1,000 million.
In the UK it used to be 1 million million, and 1,000 million was known by the French term milliard. However, in 1974 the Wilson government adopted the 1,000 million definition to avoid confusion, so it has been the same in the US and UK for over 30 years now.

Yeah, the difference is a factor of 1000. In the US that is. Here a billion is 1000 million. Strange that it's the only number that's not standarized.

Million is 7 digits: 1,000,000 and a Billion is 1,000 times that amount, so it is 1,000,000,000. Or you could look at the difference by 'm' or 'b'... lol.
