it could be because they are not very social. they probably dont have a good relationship with their parents. it could be there parents are on drugs alcohol and smoking. maybe they dont have friends at school and they do them so they will fit in. all those above things can cause deppression. the one that causes deppression the worst is when your parents are on drugs. not those wimpy drugs like marijuana. im talking about really addictive drugs like crack cocaine, meth, heroine, etc. those are the kinds of drugs that tear families apart. when a parent becomes addicted to one of those drugs it will not just affect the user but everyone who lives and works with him. i know from personal experience because my dad is addicted to crack. these kinds of drugs will lead to financial problems and the family will become turned against each other. they parents could divorce and the kid could become deppressed. if the kid becomes deppressed then overtime he will not be as social and will loose his friends because he never talks anymore........thats what happened to me. so the kid could go from popular to being un social and the kid in the corner. then he will fill lonely and become mor deppressed and he would turn to drugs just lie his parent did. then he would hang out with the kids at school who do drugs........i like to call it the "drug users social circle" because in the morning all the drug users hang out and talk and they always hang out with other drug users. now as i said before if a person is the kid in the corner he could feel left out and made fun of so he will probably become deppressed and will be willing to do anything to fit in......but he doesn't consider the consequences of his actions and he starts hanging out with the drug users and starts using drugs........then it spreads. there are lots of reasons. i hang with all the drug users but i dont do drugs. i've watched all my good friends i've known for 6 years get addicted to drugs right before my eyes. and everytime it is the same reason they do drugs........one friend runs away and steals his moms car at night and gets in fights with them......he told me his mom slaps him alot and they dont get along.....well that is probably why he does drugs is because there is not a good relationship with his parents. one girl said she "doesn't want to go home because her parents are mean and they are fighting all the time and they are about to lose their house"......that is probably why she does drugs.
its the same case nearly everytime......not close enough to your parents or deppression.
and one of my friends got kicked out of his house and has no where to live........i think you get the idea
well there is one other reason......some people are already popular have good relationships with their parents and have no financial problems......and they do drugs for the publicity of it....just to get more attention from there friends when they are already friends with everyone in there grade. but normally they only do it once or twice then stop because their mom or dad will find out and put a stop to it.
people use drugs to hide their pains emotions or bad memories. seth i read you answer and saw you said it was for the quick high and other reasons in your answer......i can tell you that is not true.....it is hardly ever for the quick high. there is always more reaon behind it then that. i know around 100 drugs users and i know that it is more then just the high.
Because as far as they're concerned they have nothing to live for but a quick high.
You really think kids look forward to committing to one girl, getting a job they hate, and having more people to take care of when they think could just blow their whole lives doing nothing?
kids dont look foward to anything. they live in the present. they're not concerned about planning out thier whole lives. they're just taking life as it comes. lol. thats why they call them kids.......thats what adults do. they have plenty to live for and th know that.....they have their friends their parents their games and their life. they dont jus plan on throwing their life away. and kids just dont say "hey i dont feel like doing anthing with my life so im going to drugs". its never ever that. kids dont thihnk foward like that and say well crap i dont want to have to do that so im going to be a drug addict. they just go through the steps of their day and go where life leads them. get up go to school hang with friends go to lunch then get out of school go home and talk with your loing parents........right....thats the idea steps of a kids life. but some kids dont have it that way.....for some its: get up watch your parents get high, then watch them fight, answer the phone to the bill collector saying your going to lose your house, get on the bus sad as hell then go to school, get to school and stand all by yourself then go to lunch and go home and watch your parents get high even more then sit on the couch with no t.v. because it got sold for drugs, sit there for 6 hours doing nothing then go to sleep. dream happy dreams where you have a real family then wake up and do it all over again the next day......this is what i do. its boring, its deppressing, and it hopeless. this is why kids do drugs is because after a while that kind of thing gets old they want to change it so they do drugs themselves and hang out with their new drugs friends and go to their firends house after school instead of going to their house to watch their parents get high.
but kids dont think foward like that. they are normally occupied by time with their friends and thoughts of what movie they are going to go to during the weekend. they think about their boyfriend or girlfriend.......they dont think about what they are going to do when they get older. they only think about what the are going to do when they are older and have to get a job and do those things. and even then drugs will not be a consideration because they have been taught better by parents and they ghave friends and they will know they are bad and they will not just want to throw away their life like that. kids live diffrent lives then adults.

Seriously? Just teens? Adults and children do too. It's a human thing. And an animal things. Intoxication is pretty much instinctive, and, lets face it... most teens are too damn stupid to know better. We KNOW better. In theory. But instinct says "WA HAY! New toy!". It doesn't help, certianly when "Everyone else is doing it," and that the adults, who more often than not have their own nice little examples of regularly partaken intoxicants (is that even a word?), persist in saying, with a bottle of beer in one hand and a cigerette in the other, "Drugs are bad mkaaay"/"You're too young to know better".
A great deal of teenagers consider themselves far more mature than they're treated. some of them are even right. A lot of them do things for some kind of... seeming of maturity. And demonstraition of their place in the cut-throat world of teen hierarchy.

Getting to know life and the social problems leads to experimentation. Some drugs and alcohol make them feel better by forgetting temporarily what they don't like or understand. Some do it because they think it make them appear cool. Some to fit in with others..etc.

Actually many people says they start smoking or take drugs because of stress. Maybe we will think that they are just plain finding excuses for themselves, and that, is still stupid.
But I certainly think that, to them, is stress, at that point of time, maybe when they look back, they will feel the same way as us, that they are too silly.
However, the affecting factor is still peer pressure.

Well I smoke drink and use drugs now and then though but you have to have a strong self esteem to say to yourself thats enough and its time to stop! But sometimes its just bad friends, stress or a out cry for attention! But its still theire own choice and no one can force them or talk them into it if they really don't want to

1. They copy the behaviors of adults, their own parents and/or others, older siblings....
2. Peer pressure. They'd like to appear "cool".
3. They're influenced by the media, overt ads or subtle "product placement" in movies and TV shows ("cool" actors are seen smoking and/or drinking)
4. "Many adolescents practice risk taking behaviors as they are trying to find their own identity and become more independent"

well i had a friend who's parents smoked and had alcohol in the house a lot and then she started to use them, but we got her to stop before it got to serious so a lot of the time I think it's because the parents do it and they don't try to keep it from kids they just leave it out, when my dad smoked I could have just gone out and started smoking any time I wanted.

because of peer pressure, sometimes there are friends that usually say you dont fit in in their group because you did imitate what they're doing and sometimes because of the parents lacking attention due to work that they did not realize that their child is in the prime of youth that they are curious ad sometimes the child itsel is wrong because they let their tiny little brain be succumed to that addiction that even though its wrong they eentually do that particular thing. hey i'm not being redundant but were in the world thats globalizing here and then and if you observe it youll realize.

Because they're not getting enough support to form their own opinions and morals, and/or lack self concept and self esteem and just fall into the trap of doing what is considered "cool".
Also to rebel.

hi im a teenager myself
i think they get into this because of pressure from their peers
they may want to do it to fit in they think they'll have more friends because they smoke/drink/drugs
thats all the teenagers do around my area i think it will also be because of the fact that they just get bored and have nothing to do.
