I just returned from 2 month vacation in Cancun. The best time of my life, and not the first time there.
I will be returning to Cancun within the next 2 weeks to work and live there. I have a lot of friends there. If you know how things work you are safe and one up on the corruption.
People are murdered everyday in all kinds of places, that said it is not right, but not that unusual, either.
If you choose not to ever return it will only be your lose, as Cancun is one of the best, and in most demand places in the
world. Hope you change your mind and return some day!!!

Absolutely! The tourist resort areas in Mexico are among the safest places for tourists in the whole world despite a bad incident or two (out of tens of millions of visitors annually!). You would be MUCH safer from assault, robbery, rape and murder in a Mexican tourist spot than at almost any place you could name in the USA.
I spend at least 3-4 vacations a year at Mexican spots and have for over 20 years, it is the United States that worries me much more. Statistically it is about 500% more dangerous.......

We live in San Jose del Cabo, near Cabo San Lucas, having moved from Helena, Mt.. It's safer here than in Montana! In the 21/2 years we've been here there have been a couple of murders in Helena, but none here. Yes, there is small crime of opportunity(leave your car unlocked with an expensive sound system and you're asking for it to be stolen), but, in general, there's very little crime. I lost my wallet recently in our local supermarket, and it was returned to me the same day by an honest Mexican. I had 3 credit cards, a debit card, ID, and about $600 pesos(about $60 US). Nothing was taken! I might have experienced the same outcome in Helena, but I doubt it. Ask yourself if you think your wallet would be returned untouched where you live. I have found the Mexican people here to be very friendly and trustworthy. Exceptions? Of course, but in general I feel safer here than in the US. We know many Mexicans who, having lived in the US, have returned for the same reasons. I have heard that it's more dangerous on the mainland, but Baja is a pretty safe place to vacation and live. I recommend it highly!

Yeah. I have Family in Mexico and i've been going over there for the past 10 years. As long as you're not by yourself and you stay in the right parts of Mexico you'll be fine.

I am right now.
In fact the US is far more dangerous than Mexico ever will. At least in mexico you have to do something wrong to get in trouble.
In most cities in the USA you get shot just for walking down the street with the wrong color shirt.
Or you can get shot just driving down the freeway.

I have, I do, and I will continue vacationing in Mexico.
Mexico is a lovely country, full of history and culture, and nice people.
You are basing your opinion on things you read on tabloids or in the news... They never show the real Mexico.
If I were to listen to that, I'd never travel around the US. :
Tourists being murdered in rest areas on highways
Snipers on the loose
Bombers galore
Cops that beat people caught on video
"Nice" boys who rape strippers at their party... should I go on?

Of course I would still vacation in Mexico. Great country, great people.. Corruption , yup that's the way of the world. Try thinking about Cartaegna if you want to use the word corruption, murder etc. That is one wild place.

I go there all the time and never had a problem, but that's your choice if you don't want to. It's a pretty damn big world out there and a lot of places you can explore besides MX.
