I would say that the problem is not so much exams, but the format of exams. Since WWII the predominant form is multiple choice, which requires students not to KNOW the answer, but merely to RECOGNIZE it when presented. Retention of data is the first casualty.

Yes our education system is very exam oriented but this makes the student fight in his life .and makes a student a struggle prepared.any tough times may come ,so we have to be prepared .
and also it makes the merit performance fine .

Exams should be more of evaluation or synthesis which are higher learning principles. This will motivate the students to apply what they have learned.
