Okay, I'm trying to cut down on my spending, but I am bored outta my skull. Unfortunately, all the "frugal living" sites are geared around moms with a horde of kids and "family" things to do, or students (of which I am no longer). I'm single, live alone, and I want to have some fun and meet new friends without breaking the bank. There's got to be more than books and DVDs from the library and surfing the net!

I also am short on cash & single. I spend a lot of time at parks...walking at Green Lake, hiking at Discovery Park, walking or reading at Golden Gardens, relaxing at the Locks, etc. Of course, it's a little harder this time of year with the weather the way it is.
I also spend a fair amount of time downtown on Sundays, since meters are free and I can walk around the waterfront, the Market, and up to Pacific Place or Westlake Center.
Too, the first Thursday of every month is free museum day. I'm not sure which are free on that day, but I know that the MOHAI, SAM, and I'm pretty sure the Burke Museum are all included and they stay open late for those of us who work during the day.
Although it's geared more towards tourists, and also can be filled with families, I have memberships to the zoo, aquarium (I love animals), the Space Needle, the Museum of Flight and the Japanese Gardens. This pretty much guarantees me something to do every weekend, when I'm bored and just want to get outside for awhile. Even though they are an upfront investment, it ends up working out...I figure for $45 at the zoo, I probably went there about 20-25 times last year (I live nearby), which makes the average cost per visit less than $2.
As for meeting new friends, I've met many of my friends at work, but have also met a few people by joining a book club, through activism and at the gym.
I hope that helps somewhat at least!

Buy a $35 Entertainment book. it has lots of specials so you can do the whole buy one get one free for a lot of restraunts and places like Imax and stuff like that..if you ever want to take someone out..it's a big saver (as long as your date doesn't mind). I use it for my girlfriend all the time, and she doesn't mind because the money I save there..means we can go out more often or hit more expensive places.
Also...if you want cheap..how about hang out at a starbucks/tullys or pike place market. I mean the price of a coffee is like $3-5 and you can hang out there all day long and meet some new people. I noticed as long as you don't seem "creepy" and are remotely interesting, people in Seattle tend to be very friendly. Or get an insider mag or the other one (i forgot the name) that's a little..dirtier..that comes out weekly and free and see if you can join any free clubs of something with similar interest. Okay good luck. Not to mention..I'm sure you're working..why don't you go out with some co-workers and meet some new people..or find a place to work for part time that has people who work there around your age (if your ft job isn't like that).

Ok, Seattle there is almost nothing you can do for a "cheap" amount of money. But you could try going downtown to the market , that is always fun and entertaining even without buying anything, also you could go to the art museum in Bellevue, Go to the movies, go skiing(sometimes there are good deals), go hiking in the cascades, fly fishing the outdoorsy things just keep listing!

I am in your exact same boat. I haven't figured out the answer though. The one thing I do is I try to volunteer as much as I can to have somewhere/somepeople to hang out with. It also has perks sometimes for example, through my weekend gig I get passes to the Science Center and IMAX movie and laser show tix and other special event passes (lots of em if you want some ;) ).
Even still, I didn't realize how much harder it gets being single in a new city after college. Good luck to us all!
