It is not clear that US aid made a decisive difference in the colossal tragedy that engulfed Eastern Europe called communism. Islamic terrorism has been around since the inception of that religion. The US did not create Islamic terrorism, it merely helped along evil elements within that religion that were already present. US politicians are reactive rather than strategic in their thinking. The mistake common to both situations is the use of proxies to conduct foreign policy.
