My wife is 1 month pregnant. We have a dog - Spitz at home. Is there a chance of catching any dog related disease. I have heard that pregnant women might catch infection from cats. Is there any such risk from dogs. If yes, what precautions must she take?

The infection from cats is not an infection.. it is a virus that can make the baby mentally handicapped.. the virus is found in cat urine and feces.. and usually only found in cats that eat raw eggs and meats (that is why the women should only have indoor cats, becuase mice and such are raw meat)... When I change my litter box of my indorr cats, I wear gloves and a mask.. with my dog and caged pets.. I don't worry...

congratulations first of all!! and the answer is NO..your wife wont catch anything horrible from your dog. make sure the dog is wormed reguarly and dont let him eat off of household dishes - all things that you should do anyway..pregnant or not. good luck with the baby!
