In std VIII Science textbook of Maharashtra Board, they have given that nitric acid can be used in the manufacture of paints. I really don't understand how this can be done.

HNO3 is a powerful oxidizing agent and is used to oxidize many metals into salts which are coloured. These salts are then suspended in various oils to give paints.
