Avoid stress, eat a wide variety of foods for nourishment, take vitamins, try not to get sick or to run down your system. A lotion called "Abreva" (the US name) will reduce the cold sore once you get it.... it comes in a small tube. But probably your best bet is to avoid stress.

Crush some Fresh Ginger and boil it with the white part of green onions. drink as needed. My mother give this to us all the time for ailments like fever blisters and cold sores. also put some medicated Vaseline/Moraline on the affected area to speed up the healing process.

Katherine W is correct (Abreva or Valtrex). Also wear sunscreen on your face. Sometimes sun exposure can trigger outbreaks.
