Almost every man I see seems to trigger the memories. I know that not all men are bad, but how can you tell which ones are going to hurt you and which ones aren't?

You don't.
Time will help, but what you do is get busy with life.

Only good thoughts can erase bad memories.

Good thoughts leads to good actions which leads to good habits which leads to good circumstances which changes your life in the direction you want it.

It takes a long time to get over physical pain, and to be able/willing to try to trust someone again.Take your time,be careful, and maybe talk to someone that has been through the bad,and was able to find good! The triggers=listen to them-somewhat.They will help keep you safe. But if you listen too close,it will also keep you from trying to find someone special any more.Good Luck.

It's a rough one. I was in therapy for over a year after I finally left my husband who beat me & threatened to kill me & everyone I knew. I am with a gentle giant now (6' 8") & so gentle that he's afraid he's hurting me each time he touches me. I brought him to one of my last sessions & my therapist asked how I felt with him touching me (hugging, arm around me, etc) & I felt protected. She said that it was unusual for someone to trust a man after being hurt. Seek some counseling or a group. If you want to talk to me, e-mail me.

Get yourself into counseling.

You deserve to feel better.

Hopefully you will feel brave enough to face your fears and confront them so you will not have to hurt and wonder for the rest of your life who and when you will hurt again.

there are many apples on the tree, not all of them will taste the same, some will fall to quickly, while other will stay on too long and spoil. You get the picture.

hey,
Even though you had troublesome relationship/s, it doesnt mean that your future relationships will turn out like that. You need to understand this to fully move on. Just try to be with someone who compatible and un-complicating.
