How do I keep my new cherry wood dinner table and chairs looking new... I have put a very nice wax on it and it is very nice an shinny. I have grandchildren who love to sit at the table and do work. I don't want the table to get scraches on it or even stains on it.
I put a table cloth on it but then I don't get to see the beauty of the table. I want to put a clear plastic cover on it but was told that could cause damage to the table because it could sweat. Can someone tell me the best thing to do to keep my table and chairs beautiful forever.

AVOID WATER BASED CLEANERS-----LEMON OIL WORKS BEST TO MAINTAIN THE WOOD-----AVOID PLASTIC SINCE THE TABLE HAS TO BREATHE TO DEAL WITH HUMIDITY------USE LEMON OIL ON THE OBVERSE ALSO------YRS. First strip off the wax using denatured alcohol. Use a dilution of 2 parts water per 1 part alcohol. After it is thoroughly dry and no feel of wax (greasy or oily), apply 2 to 3 coats of polycrylic coating. Polycrylic is just as durable as polyurethane but it does not alter the color of the original wood. Use semi-gloss so it doesn't look over shiny.
