I'm in a world of warcraft guild and I never really feel like I'll ever be taken seriously because I"m female. Besides the fact that I am probably outnumbered 100 to 1, don't think the guys I play with ever believe I could be as good as them. (Of course, they don't say to my face.) Many guys also spent a lot of their youth playing video games, which is also something few girls do, perhaps giving them an overall advantage at gaming.
Will I ever be anything more than a novelty to them?

you do not have to prove anything to anyone. I am a girl who plays games and if your good, you know it. It has nothing to do with sex, sorry to say. The only people that you have to prove that to are men who are insecure about losing to a girl. I can kick my boyfrinds butt at video games. Nothing to prove there, its a fact. I also know a lot about music and find the same kind of insecurities there with some men as well. Women can know a thing or two about thngs, there is no reason to have to prove anything!!

So what if some males say anything about you being a girl gamer. If you enjoy the game and playing it, don't let the lot of online players get to you. Besides if you can kick *** show them who is boss of, in your case, WoW. Besides, you have to remember a lot of the online games are played by teenage boys who are going to naturally feel more dominant in a online game. When you play stop thinking of yourself as a "novelty" and enjoy the game for what it is. So what if a bunch of anonymous idiots are going to talk behind your back, if they do at all. Do your business and get along your merry way and finish up whatever you were doing. If they have a problem with a female playing games, and online game at that, let them run about their own insecurities.

I also played WoW for about a year. I really can't tell the difference between a girl or guy playing WoW (unless they talk on Vent/ T.S. on a raid) since there are many male players who create female characters. I don't think girls are worse or better than guys just for being female. I believe it is a matter of experience in that game you're playing

not until u prove it. im sorry but when i play xbox live against a girl, i dont really try as hard. yea it stereotyping and all that. of course i ended up losing to the girl, so now its fair game., i play hard all the time. lol, so just prove to them that ur actually pretty good

maybe guys feel strange about girl gamers. i beat one of the best gamers in a melee match and was face to face with like our hometown's best melee player (which i had kirby) and yet i got a lot of respect from other gamers but not the BEST one. maybe they feel intimidated.

yeah some boys do. i'm a female gamer and nobody ever beat me in street fighter (any version) and tekken (any version). in timezone when i win against guys, they walk around the arcade machine and when they finds out a girl beat a crap out of them, they just freak out. Boy i just love the looks on their faces when they find out. ^^,
