They're right. You'd have to become a medical doctor and specialize in psychiatry. If you'd like to be involved with psychology and not be a doc, you could focus on becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and/or a psychologist. A psychologist is a Ph.D. or Psy.D. Usually that involves four years of college, prefferably in psychology, and then graduate school, which can last any where from three to six years.

Hi, You must go through med school first. Become a doctor and then continue school to specialize in Psychiatry. I am afraid it is much more than a psychology course.

You first have to have a natural sence on people as a whole. Then do some research on what certain colleges offer to YOU. Remember your the one paying for it! All together it's take about 7-8 years to gain a degree.
