I'm a homeschooler, but I would have to say it depends on the quality of the school. The public schools in my state are poor, esp. in my county (rated Ds and Fs by the state) so probably are not what you would consider the best kind of school. But I know some states put a lot of money into their school system, have state income tax (which we don't) and in those states, if they are "A" rated schools would probably be much different.

Private schools can be good to bad. I do think a lot of private schools can be good, but even they can vary in quality. Private school teachers don't have to have any degrees in teaching or certification, so aren't necessarily better than the public schools. Also for us at least we can't afford the ones that are located in our area. They are all very expensive, but if you can afford them there are some good ones. There is one in our area though that is very pressured and makes you go to summer school to study for the SAT and everything, that seems a bit much so I would try to avoid a prep school like that one.

I do have a teaching degree, and am pretty motivated with my children. I tried school for preschool and then Kindergarten and 1st grade with my oldest, he is autism spectrum and dyslexic, and it didn't work out. They really would not provide any help and just expected me to work with him after school and on weekends (knowing I had a teaching degree I suppose). It got to the point where they had me tutoring him with reading, math, handwriting, and then they asked me to preteach his lang. arts. So that's when we decided to homeschool him, because I pretty much almost was, except my son wouldn't have the stress of going to school also (he was crying and having stomach aches each day). So homeschool is the best kind of school for our family anyway.

If you';re smart enough and your child is responding well to it, homeschooling with public school activities. Home schooled kids can join in most counties public school programs.

If you're child just isn't responding to the homeschool enviroment then private all the way.

I personally believe that the single most important aspect of school is football, soccer, choir, band, cheerleading, etc. That's where kids really learn.

The best kind of school is the kind that teaches the student to learn on their own, while at the same time prepares the student for future opportunities.

There are some very distinct disadvantages to each of the three types of schooling listed above.

Any of the three that gives the student the knowledge and the ability to rise above the inherent limitations of the schooling, so that the person can achieve and succeed, is a good school.
