What Bushido says is not very nice. But I wonder if it is nearer the truth than those who have said they would die trying to save the child?
You, after all, may have loved ones who would suffer considerably if you drowned.
Your first loyalty is to them is it not?
I sincerely hope that none of us ever find ourselves in that awful position.

what do you want a real answer or a crap answer like most have already given?it's ok for ppl to think and say i'd die trying and crap like that but when it happens the truth is they would just stand there and look.it comes down to a lot wouldn't be able to make a decision what to do and a lot suddenly realise how much thier life actually does mean to them.personally i would make an informed decision based on the facts of the situation,i would give my life to save a child but i wouldn't give my life for nothing.if the child cant be saved thiers no point the emergency services having to deal with two bodies, two grieving families etc.

Good Question.....

i THINK i would do an extremely quick assessment of my surroundings and see if there wasn't anything around that I could use to help save the child

( it would be great if there was a rope already tied to a tree that i could hold as i waded out to try and save the child .. then i could pull us back in if i got into trouble)

I think .. I would risk trying to save the child .. sure i may drown in the process BUT how hard would the memory of watching a child drown before you eyes, be... could I live with the fact that I DID nothing to try ....

First of all I wouldnt take my kid and let him play in the river if I couldnt swim.
But if some other dumbass would do this I would recommend jumping in and trying because your even though you could live or die trying to save him, could you possibly live with the fact that you just stood there with your thumb up your butt thinking "Gee I wish I wouldnt have taken my kid out to the river when I can not swim."

What a scenario!!!This is difficult to answer as i can swim? Would love to see feedback from somebody who can't swim? Jesus i have NO idea what i would do? If there were trees around i guess there could be a branch long enough to reach? Had to rescue a dog once from a river!!

This happened to me when I was a small child. I fell in the river beside where I lived and a passer by who couldn,t swim jumped in and saved my life. If it weren,t for this man I wouldn,t be here today.

I hope I would remember the 1st rule of rescue and not put myself in danger. Better one person to rescue than two. I would try and find something for the child to grab hold of so I could drag them into the bank. If there was no way for me to rescue them I'd go for help.

Hard to answer, but i'll try to find anything that can reach the child like rope, stick, and call 112 or 911 by my cellphone & finally pray to God

I'd throw the kid a piece of wood to keep him above the water until I could find some help.Jumping in wouldn't make any sens if I can't.

it's hard to say right now, but I think I would go in..everyone can swim...If you don't panic. (I am not a swimmer but in middle school I would use a paddle board, but when my head was down the board was out of the water...so I was actually swimming.) It's all in the mind.

I'd take my coat off and try to throw that out to them.Saw it on lassie once! It's amazing how far an adult size coat can stretch.Plus it's heavy enough to get a good throw out depending on how far out the child is.
