It will play video DVD's. You cannot go to your computer and burn data onto a blank dvd and expect it to read the data off of it. It will only play movies that have been burned onto the dvd in the correct dvd format

It can read almost all except some disney movies for some reason will not play or even be detected.

Only the new slim PS2 will read dvd that have been burned and Cd's that have been burned, but it also depends on what kind of cd or dvd it was burned on.
