I say get rid of it. So some states are less populated, so what. What happened to we are all Americans? One man one vote? The word state should not be used during a presidential election. Our nation as one should be used.

Should be a nationwide majority vote no matter how populated a state is. Plain and simple. The person with the most votes should win.

Well the actual need for an actual electoral college is stupid ... but the idea of having electoral votes rather than a popular vote still has some merit

For example, let's say there was a president who said if he becomes president, Protestants would not have to pay taxes. Since the country is over 50% Protestant, this person would have as chance to win the popular vote in theory, but they would have little or no chance to win the Big States such as New York and California.

"The thing that makes our country so great and at the same time so horrible is that the my vote is worth as much as yours..." - This Just In

OK seriously it's suppost to be a means of balancing the political scene just like the bipartisan legislature. It allows some of the smaller states to have a better say in who's elected just like the senate while caping the totals for larger states like california.

and if we switch to a national vote talley the results would likly take over a month to count the votes instead of having the individual states who can better understand and manage the voting process who tend to produce accurate results within a day.

If anything candiates should stop campaining by state based on the state's electorial votes but that would never happen

I think the Electoral College should be reformed by having states use a proportional method for electoral votes per state. But I like the idea of having the "Representative" Electoral Votes be allocated proportionally in each state and the "Senatorial" Electoral Votes be given to the winner of the state.

Neither the electoral college or the popular vote guarantees that the most qualified person gets elected,an election of a popular personality could be a big mistake you might get a crack-pot cowboy as president.
