can anyone tell me if its illegal to have a pet monkey in australia? and where you can get one in australia? ive done research and i think it would be a great pet if you get a tame one.

Actually they make terrible pets. Just let them stay wild where they are happiest.

Yer its illegal 2 hav a monkey in Australia but i still want 1 bad. I think u can hav pet monkeys in Bali & Tailand.

I don't know what the law there is. BUT, you should research long term ownership. They live a very long time. As the become adults they can be moody and dangerous. Most pet monkeys are abandon because the become dificult to get along with.

hey im a vet nurse from melb yes it is illegal to have a pet monkey in australia, plus they carry diseases like rabies, and other horrible thins like that, the trade of "pet" monkeys and other wild life in country in australia and other countries espcially asia and south america is really bad as they take young from the forests and keep them in cages to small to move check out the animals asia web site im not sure of the address but you could yahoo it or google it to find it. it will show you what sort of terrible things are done to these beautiful creatures who should be protected..... may i surrgest a cat or a dog from a shelter as thousands and thousands are put to death each year

Yeah, they are illegal here in Oz...... Do you have any kids? A monkey would be like having a two-year-old around, very high maintenance pet...!!!!!

don't get a monkey. they are filthy, can carry lots of nasty diseases and can become very difficult to deal with once they reach sexual maturity
