The mouse had nothing to do with it. Mice are common, and unless you are eating the mouse poo, or letting them pee in your food, its not a problem. Just trap them and set out poison when you see evidence. I live in the country and have them every fall by the dozen.

It's possible but unlikely in modern times. Mice are more likely to carry bacteria than something more serious such as hanta virus but can also carry fleas into the house. (They also tend to carry tapeworm, but that's only an issue if you eat the little buggers.) Make sure any stored food the mouse might get to is well covered, and/or clean the container before opening it. Actually I should say 'mice' because they rarely travel alone. I recommend getting a cat, if she doesn't have one already.

highly un-likely, even the cleanest of homes get these critters, mostly they want to be in a warm place to live and food. they say a mouse can get through a hole as small as a dime..There is a country I saw on a documentry(I won't say name, may offend)
they let the mice run all over everything, I mean everything!!
the food, the drinking water, milk container, these people considered it an honor to eat and drink after that, claimed no one in over 600 years has had any sickness. it looked really gross........Go figure.
Hope your friend feels better...
ooh,I stand corrected,I better do more checking..yuck...(answers above)

It's unlikely that the mouse made her sick, unless she ate food on which the mouse had urinated or defecated. If she would like to catch and release the mouse humanely, here are some tips:

and I've had great success with this humane trap in my house:

The Hanta virus is a very serious condition transmitted by mice and rats. The early symptoms are flu like, however the end results are much more dire. See: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hanta/hps/
