The Darwin Awards are well investigated and there is ample evidence that the events actually took place.
One of the first Darwin Awards went to the JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off) rocket car. That has been proven impossible by the Mythbusters if I'm not mistaken. However in recent years the awards have taken pains to prove that the deaths actually occurred.
