Not really. Someone trying to do this is trying to make apples equal oranges. They're not the same, but they're trying to say they are.

That's one way of looking at it. The other would be related to the metaphoric content. Trying to count something fully before the actual fruition/hatching/blossoming/whatever is unwise because there is no guarantee that it will be so.

Chickens are worth more than eggs because they can make more eggs. You are just counting eggs, but unless they are cared for correctly, all you will have are the eggs in hand.

Yes...BUT if you count the chickens before they hatch and they are in a Carton in your refrigerator, don't count on having any chickens (to count). You are S.O.L.

yes thats right....but you are only counting eggs...by counting chickens before they hatch you are anticipating and assuming that they will hatch..and a chick will then be a result......does that make sense....ive confused myself.....lol...
