I am writing a paper for my Business Law class, the professor said to write about something dealing with leagality. I asked my friend and he told me to write about the internet gambling issue. Since I am in New York I have to keep it related to N.Y. I found a lot of interesting points for my paper but I still cant get a solid answer, is betting online in new york legal or illegal? This question is pretty much the foundation of my paper and without it my paper would not be an A paper, thanks for all the help.

The new law (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) doesn't actually make it illegal to gamble online. It only makes it illegal for banks and other financial institutions to transfer your money to these gambling sites. I'm no expert, but it probably won't do that much, as banks can simply transfer your funds to an international payment processor, like Neteller, who then can send your money to the gambling site, the Treasury and government has no control over who these international companies send your money to.

I think its in limbo. Its dependent if gambling is legal in your state. The Federal Gov is trying to out law it, but World trade organization is stopping these laws. WTO's position is that if its legal there, that the government has to allow Internet gambling in .
If gambling is out and out illegal in New York, the WTO can''t do anything. I do not know how Indian reservation will affect this.

i can make subsidies to tobacco growers unlawful, and really, use that money to FEED human beings. If anybody is stupid sufficient to smoke, that is their organisation, yet i'm not interested in finding out to purchase their habit at the same time as there are hungry human beings available. i ought to legalize pot and gay marriages; that is in simple terms incorrect to inform human beings what they could do of their own lives at the same time as that is not affecting me.

The US is trying to make it illegal, but they can't control it. They just want there cut from taxes which they can't because the gambling web-sites are located out side of the US. '
