That really depends on the texture.

My children are black/white and I used nothing on their hair until they got older. They have very silky, curly hair now, but it started out straight and so it needed NO oil. Their little heads tend to be oily as it is starting out.

You'll want to wait until your baby's scalp isn't so sensitive before you start putting much of anything other than water and baby shampoo on it. All you need to do at the newborn stage is to brush it down while it's still wet and it'll dry that way. Once the baby has more hair and is at least 6 months old, you can think about trying a product.

FOR FUTURE REFERENCE LOL:
When my first got old enough, I made the HORRIBLE mistake of listen to people who suggested I put oil and lotions in their hair. It was a mess. Unless the child has VERY coarse hair then PLEASE stay away from grease. I'm talking coarse as in African American texture. People seem to automatically think because a child is half Black it MUST have some grease in it's head, that's incorrect thinking (Telling ya from experience lol).

I now use FX Fusion silk drops in my girls hair. It comes from the caucasian hair products and therefore won't goop their hair down. It's the best thing for their hair and makes it shiny too. It's not oily and it doesn't get hard when you put it on. I brush it while it's wet and apply a pea sized drop of the silk drops in my hands and work it through. Then let it dry. Both my 6 year old and 2 year old have gorgeous, well definited Shirley Temple curls without the frizz. They get lots of compliments on it when we're out.

Don't ever comb curly hair when it's dry...It will poof up.

ADDED: SORRY BUT THEIR ARE SUCH THINGS AS CAUCASIAN PRODUCTS SO DON'T BELIEVE THAT.

Products for white hair tend to NOT have the OILS in them that the black hair products have. Try finding a black relaxer in the white hair care section or "headdress" and see if you'll find those in the caucausian section. This lady isn't going to be taking her newborn to a "salon", therefore, she needs to know what SECTION in a store she can find the necessary products.

Black hair has to have moisture in some shape, form, or fashion whereas, white hair doesn't. I can guarantee you that if a black person is going to a "white" hairstylist, at some point their hair IS being moisturized. If not at the salon, then at home for sure.

UNLESS, their texture is a silky. In that case then products used on white hair is fine and there would be no need for "headdress".

I have mixed children, I've used products from both sections. A quick glance at the FIRST ingredient in a product will let you know what there is more of and whose hair it's more appropriate for.

Pink Oil IS too much for my children's hair, even minute amounts. That's the wonderful thing about mixed children. They come in many varieties. My children have very fine, silky hair. Any amount of heavy oil will mat it together. I've been doing my daughter's for 6 years now. I've been through many products and the FX drops are the only thing that work wonderfully.

well for all of you who are saying pink lotion is to much i laughed at that...baby oil is way to much...i have two mixed children with my first i tried using baby oil gel and that was just to much plus it doesnt stay in for long...my friend at work (who is a older black woman) told me to use pink and i love it.i think the pink light doesnt work well at all.what i do is have a squirt bottle full of water and wet the hair and then add the pink lotion in it.not only does it look nice but it stays in pretty much all day...maybe those of you who didnt like it used a lil to much...my kids dont even have the real nappy hair either and it wasnt to much.anyways as you can see i would choose the pink lotion...even baby lotion works but doesnt last all day:)

You really don't have to put anything on it. My daughter isn't mixed but she is black. I would put a light leave in conditioner or something but if pink lotion is too heavy their hair probably leans more to your side. I wouldn't put anything on it. It would just weigh it down and make it look greasy. Grease has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with being black. There's no such thing as Caucasian hair products. I'm black. I don't use grease in my hair. It's heavy and gross. To be honest I get my hair cut at Toni & Guy by a CAUSCASIAN man and I use their "CAUCASIAN" products. Use what you feel is best. If it makes their hair gross don't use it. Don't ever be ignorant and say things like all Black people use grease because we don't. I don't. My friends don't.

nooooo pink lotion is too strong for a newborn babies hair...i am 20 and have ever liked the effect it had on my hair...i just put about a quarter sized amount of baby lotion in my daughters hair and it works just fine...baby oil to me is too oily but every now and then to give her hair a bit of shine i add like a dab of baby oil gel....i think for a newborn anything stronger than baby lotion or baby oil is too strong and may irritate the skin of baby....

wow...you actually put pink lotion in baby hair? pink lotion is one of the heaviest moisturizers out there. they even had to make a "light" version for adults.

just use a pea sized amount of baby oil like another person suggested. baby hair doesn't need much anyway.

If its curly hair try just letting it dry naturally. resist the hairbrush or use a pick. When she gets older conditioner and a light mousse will work fine.

Just a dab of babyoil is good enough, but since they're still newborn it'll condition itself...
