When I did my Radioactive Iodine treatment in the early 1990's, the dr. said to us that I will never be able to concieve (I went from hyperthyroidism to hypothyroidism). Well, todays doctors say if I am having periods, then I should be able to have a child. We have been married for 17 years and still we have not had a child of our own.

Do you think, 1990's doctor really mean it? or today's doctors?

I lost my only son in the 80's, and I was told I wasn't finished grieving for my child so psychologically I am unable to have a child. IS this true?

I really want to have a child..

I would see a fertility doctor, and see what you can do. Thyroid issues do have an impact on fertilty, but with the right meds keeping it under control it's possible to conceive. I had a miscarriage, when I did they checked for thyroid problems. Apparently if it acts up it can cause miscarriage. So there are risks involved with thyroid issues.

Ask a specialist the question about being able to conceive after Radioactive Iodine treatment. I was told no! but then I had to have a hysterectomy shortly after because I had a tubal pregnancy, so see I did conceive.

I know plenty of people with thyroids who have had more than one child. If he said you should be able to conceive...start trying, ask your doctor for prenatal vitamins. Good luck to you.

i suffer from hypothyriodism since i was 19 (im now 38) and i have had 2 beautiful children....i was on oroxine to treat the disorder.....as long as you are being treated and you have the correct levels in your blood work you can conceive.....i would suggest if you are currently being treated that you speak to a fertility specialist to assist you further.....

then why not keep on trying to have a kid.. or else you can do the tube baby.. if that doesn't work then adopt one.. there are plenty of children who need a real family.
