I took a pregnancy test tonight. The Walgreens version of First Response. Right away this very very thin blue line shows up. It was a lot thinner than the control line but you can still see it. I was due the 10th, but since the 9th have been having a brown discharge that stopped last night. Any ideas?

with this type of test the control line is used to ensure the test will read correctly. If it does not show up the test is defective. your control line showed up so the test was working. the test line need not be the same thickness or as dark in order to indicate a positive result. similarly, if the test line had been darker or thicker it would also indicate a positive result.

Many women experience a "period" during pregnancy. But to be sure that everything is going well, you should see a doctor. You want to begin prenatal care early to promote the health of your child.

good luck

wait a little while longer. You may not have built up that much HCG yet. Be careful though, because even though the line is faint, it is still a positive. The brown discharge may be dried blood. When a woman concieves, the embryo digs into the uterus and anchors itself. This can cause bleeding. Another thing you can do is go to a clinic and have them perform a definitive pregnancy test.

As a side note, I would recommend you lay off all alcohol while you are unsure. Alcohol has serious side effects on the developing baby, and it is especially damaging in the early stages of pregnancy.
