I don't hate fat people as I don't believe that outside appearances should matter.
However, I know someone who does not like fat people and when I asked him why, he said that it's because fat people are lazy and can't control themselves. He has this notion that the people became fat due to laziness and being unable to control themselves (in terms of food and physical fitness).

You that is a very good question, but people look at the outside and not inside, and the world we live in it is all about what we look like. That is just how it is. If a very slender attractive thin girl came in for a job she would definantly get the job before a big chunky girl. That is the way of the world. But, some overweight or obese people wear things that they shouldn't wear. That is totally unappropiate. I am a plussize girl and love it but me personally i want to lose wait for health reasons.

It stems from the fact that plus sized people are termed with a derogatory term called "fat". Society does not have a demeaning term for skinny people. Its the way you look at these group of people as "lazy, lacking control and self esteem" which begins all the despise.

It's wierd, fat people are the one minority that the politically correct stigma hasn't branded untouchable. Whites can't rip on blacks, blacks can't rip on whites, straight people can't rip on gays...etc, but fat people are the one minority (soon to be majority in the US, if not already) that it is socially acceptable to discriminate against. America is getting fatter by the second so we should get used to it. Soon there will be marches for "fat civil rights", although it would be a short march. You have to remember, there aren't morbidly obese cases in France or England, so obviously we are doing something wrong. We shouldn't seek acceptness in being obese, we should seek alternatives. There is a reason that Europeans work out less, smoke more, and drink more, yet they never get fat and they live longer. Ask a French chick how she keeps her figure.

I guess people run out of legitimate reasons to hate each other, so they have to grab on to each others differences. It's a sad world sometimes. I just look on the bright side. The overweight are providing a service to the haters by just being round to bear the brunt of the haters' wrath.

I don't know the true answer; but (speaking as someone who was overweight as a child)..........I think being around people who have not been able to control such a big part of their life (health and fitness) is discouraging. Many people like to be around strong people who seem to be in control of their lives. Some people choose to be around overweight people; because they feel are they are weaker than themselves. They may actually "enable" or encourage overweight people to keep eating; because it makes them feel better about themselves. When a loved one is extremely overweight it is stressful. You worry they will die at a young age; and it is hard to understand why strangers don't see the wonderful person you see in your loved one. I believe weight/overeating is like smoking. It is an addiction that some people need help with; but most people will not stop until they CHOOSE to stop.......

same reason they don't like drunks. They have an addiction they can't control.
But in fairness, I don't think it's right to despise someone for a weakness. Most of us are addicted to something.
