How to Remove a Permanent Marker Stain

Due to the unique contents of various inks, not to mention the color and materials of a garment, no one solution works for all clothing or all types of markers. Remember when trying to remove a permanent marker stain, that you should first check the garment for its content, as well as any manufacturer's instructions.

Make sure you have a pad of paper towels underneath the area of material that you are trying to get the stain out of. Lay the item face down and work from the back of the stain, to avoid pushing the marker contents further into the fibers. Whatever stain removal method you choose, there are two basic rules: test it first on an area that will not show, to see if it stains or damages the fabric/color, and always air dry the garment after laundering, in the event the stain is not gone, and needs to be treated again. The heat from a dryer can set the stain so deeply that removal may not be possible.

Some treatments used for ballpoint ink may help, although the substance is entirely different. You can try sponging with rubbing alcohol and then laundering, or if the stain is in a viable location, soak the area (cuff, shirt sleeve, etc.) in a cup or dish of milk for several hours, then launder.

Stanley Home Products - Orange Miracle. Personally never used on sharpie marker, but good friend did and it worked. I saw the shirt before and after. Good Luck

Sharpie will never come out, it's permanant. Or you could ask my 6 year old who really liked a blue sharpie and drew all over her body when she was 2 how many weeks it took to wash it off. (about a month) Good luck

The only product I know that truly removes permanent marker is Joe Campanelli's Professional Formula Stain Remover. I use the spray bottle kind. Works for me. And I buy it at QVC.

there is a reason why they call it permanent markers. I really doubt that you will get it out. but you can try spraying on some hairspray, that used to work for me when I had to wear white clothes and I got ink on them, or you can try dying them green maybe.. other then that I think you are out of luck for getting it out... good luck,

I doubt you can. I wear khaki pants to work almost everyday and marker is one thing I have not been able to get out.

I looked on the Sharpie website and they recommended using this product: http://www.amodexink.com/

Permanent marker might come out during dry cleaning...it would depend on which solvent your cleaner uses. You could ask your dry cleaner if it's possible...but even if the stain doesn't come out, you'll still have to pay for the cleaning.

If you have washed and DRIED the pants in a dryer you may not get it out, as drying sets stains. Try alcohol and clean paper toweling under the stain pouring from top and absorbing from both sides. Then wash and hang to dry. You can keep working on it as long as not dried in dryer. If doesn't come out, try a soft, khaki colored fabric paint, close to your pant color ( from craft dept. ) on stain. You may be able to salvage enough to wear without being obvious.
