These are quality cars, and are very comfortable and dependable. And there is no "special bargain" - some people prefer to buy American cars.
Good question.
P.S. Less expensive to repair, also.

They are from an era that said bigger is better. Also, they are more concerned with comfort than style. Many of these old-timers grew up poor or had hard lives. They just want to enjoy the comfort that a better life brings. Remember, these big American cars USED to be even bigger. They were the cream of the crop in the world and a real status symbol. The whole world saw these big American cars as the height of luxury and success and it was the reward we gave ourselves for fighting World War 2, Korea and building huge industrial might. Unfortunately, the big car companies took these people and their products for granted and let the quality go into the toilet. Now Toyota is number 1. When we are old-timers, younger people will probably be asking why we drive Camrys.

I have parents who are pushng 80 so I may have an insight on this issue. It has to do with the ride characteristics of the car. If you have ever ridden in both a large car and a small or compact car you'll know what I mean. A larger car with more space between the wheels (longer wheelbase) with a softer suspension is able to absorb bumps in the road easier than a shorter wheelbase car with a stiff or sport suspension. Smaller, sportier cars are made to handle and corner better while larger luxury cars are made to give a more comfortable ride, but usually cannot handle or corner as well.

I've noticed this varies drastically based on your geographical region. Around here, I've seen old folks in everything between rusted out 1990 Corolla's and 2007 Lamborghini's (I saw a lil old man who looked like he was about 85 driving...no, racing a brand new Murciellgo). The norm seems to be Cadillac, Lincolns, Buicks and sports cars (in general, no specific make).

One reason theychronic those autos is they have form, comphort, and protection. yet another, those autos have many years of performance and historic past. possibly they are doing there section to help the U. S. economic device and businesses, possibly they opt for the country to maintain as many roles as we may be able to right here with out them going overseas places? how a lot of you underage wannabe choose for speed posers will be paying for v-8's with authentic ability as a change of bragging about an enimic 2 hundred hp honda if gas expenditures were to fall? also, maximum critically, they prefer those autos for regardless of reason, similar as you want your recycled barbie dolls with 2 hundred hamsterpower with trash can exhausts that sound like annoyed bumblebee's and those wimpy superchargers made through tonka toys. in my opinion, i love a authentic American made Pontiac with a minimum of a 400 to a 455. ( cant beat the sensation of leaving a one thousand lb honda interior the dirt at the same time as driving a 3800 pound tank made in michigan, yet thats basically me!) to each and each and every his own. through how, i'm not previous and would affort the gas, HA!

Okay you guys quit picking on the old people - we get on line too!!
My last car was a Bonneville - but a SSE with 8 speakers (playing Southern Rock n' Roll aka Allman Bros. etc.), lumbar seats (showing the age) and speed to die for!!- that was the family car - my personal car was a Nissan 300 ZX - 5 speed with T-tops- but my son won it from me in a bet on his football place kicking.
And to answer your question - we can finally afford the bigger, comfy cars with seat warmers!! Go figure?

Olds and Buicks were popular with that generation when they were younger, and so they probably stick with it in their old age. Cars are also designed for specific age groups, demographics, etc. It's no fluke that olds and buicks are designed to attract old folks.

Older people are conservative. They don't need pickup trucks, generally can't afford suv's, and don't want sports cars. So what's left? That's right, old fart cars. I drive a 4-door sedan myself most of the time.
