I think you get an upgrade on your room. Definitely bring a kid with you. Even if it is not your kid. Go for the better room.

Well, I guess it's possible that things are entirely different in Canada than they are here in the US, but I kind of doubt it. It's not like you guys are living on Mars--you're just over the border, so to speak.

I had a friend that worked at a women's shelter, and they regularly receive women AND their children. I mean, most women who leave abusive men take their children with them if at all possible. The children are not taken away from the mother, if that's what you are fearing.

My friend explained what the shelter did and what their goals were:

Provide a safe place for the woman and children,
Provide information to the woman about her options,
Provide a place where the woman felt comfortable about seeking help,
And provide for material needs like clothing and toiletries if the woman had to leave in a big hurry.

If you are in a place where you are trying to leave a man, and you need to go to a women's shelter, then do it. If you can take your child, then take your child. The people at the shelter will give you a place to stay, and they will also be able to give you information about your rights, and how you should proceed in a manner that protects those rights and your physical self. They can help put you in contact with the police, or with a lawyer, or with whatever you need.

I wish you the best. I really, really do.

I only know about the ones in the u.s,Here they are very strict and very secretive about where the shelter is,Your not allowed to tell anyone where the home I.E shelter is they will make sure all your needs are met if you don't have any clothing when you go they Will provide some, they will feed you and your children and most times you will have your own room. Also they are FREE you may nothing at all.You will have a curfew most places are around 8pm You are allowed to work and your children can still go to school. They will help you get a protective order for the abuser to stay away from you and the children. They will also offer counseling for you and the children if need be.They are very helpful however there are rules and that makes it no walk in the park.If you don't have any other safe place to go to where the abuser can't find you I would recommend it.Good Luck!

I was in one when I was a child. Things have changed some since then I am sure. They were very helpful. They helped my mom get a job, and it was more like a homelike setting sort of. With other women as well, with there children. It is alittle rough, but you will get through it, there are still a few people out there that care. Are you going to an abused womans home? I think that would be your best bet, I mean I dont know your situation, but it would probably be safer for you and your child. Good luck dear, I will pray for you and your child. Always remember, God will take care of you, dont give up

Oh my gosh they are sooo nice. I went one time and they are so helpful and they protect your identity so the other person cannot find you or the shelter. oh perhaps you are speaking of a women's homeless shelter rather than a crisis center. Perhaps you could clarify. Mmm

Everyone is different. The one here, a family gets a min-apartment, or an extra large room. Kids get counseling and childcare
