I'm assuming the person who filed for divorce, but I was just curious because it seems like the man is always the one that has to do that, which of course would cause problems.

It doesn't really matter what sex the people are when filing divorce. The person that makes more money pays the other alimony to make sure they have the same quality of life they were previously used to. If a lawyer wife gets dumped by her waiter husband, she still has to pay alimony.

The person who would pay alimony would probably be the one who has made the most money. If they are equally the same perhaps it would be the one with the child. Property would probably be split up equally. In some cases today with hetero marraiges the woman could pay alimony if she made more. Also if one files cruel and abusive behavior he might have to pay more too.

Probably the one with more money. The reason men usually pay alimony is that they earn more money than women and the women need to have some financial feather bed to fall back on when they get divorced.

Alamony is only payed if one of the people supported the other person, and that other person was out of a job or worked minimul hours for the majority of time they were w/ the other person. Ofcourse, if they have children it would all depend on who had the most custody, ect. So, it really doesn't have anything to do w/ sex. I do not agree w/ same sex marriages just so you know, I'm not trying to defend it.

Alimony is not awarded to the "fairer" sex... it is awarded only if the other spouse makes significantly less than the other spouse and cannot make enough to support their self... or if the other spouse was rich then they are awarded alot more to "keep up the way of life that they have grown accustomed to". Long term alimony is kinda silly to me.
