I've been using the x86 & x64 version of Vista for almost 2 months now. Legacy devices are not a problem. Obscure third party hardware drivers are not included with Vista yet.

You will have to vistit the hardware manufacturer web sites for release dates on Vista drivers.

As for software. eevn the x64 Vista has no problem running every app I had on my XP machine.

FYI ... it is an AWESOME operating system.
It is to Windows XP what Win95 was to Windows 3.1

Once you try it you will be hooked !

Most always Windows will come with default drivers for hardware until the software company that makes the hardware releases a Vista version.

As for programs Windows XP has had the feature that allowed it to emulate 98 and 95 even to DOS so that programs can be compatibable with XP. I think Vista would have this option because if not they are basicly losing a market share.

What will happen is software that requires a outdated version of something that Windows no longer supports will render a program useless. This is like a program that uses Direct X 6(A API like software that is used for games) will not work with Vista's new Direct X 10.

I personally would like to buy the Vista Premium but there is no way I'm giving $400 dollars for it. I need Premium because I develop software and such and I can't work with the regular version. So I'll be keeping XP for a while and hope the price dorps on the it. Besides if your worried about support for XP they will not drop it for quite some time.
