Spelt - Thylacine. known as the Tasmanian Tiger.(although it was not a tiger)

Thylacinus cynocephalus ( meaning pouched dog with wolfs head) - Tasmanian Tiger. Now extinct. It is described as a large dog like animal with stripes and a long body. It is a marsupial, giving birth to live hairless babies, which when born crawled in to the mothers backward facing pouch and attached themselves to teats. It is believed that they gave birth to 3 - 4 babies. They were carnivores - (meat eaters) The last known live Tasmanian Tiger died in 1936 at Hobart Zoo. They were found all over Australia and New Guinea, mainly in Tasmania. There have been numerous sightings since 1936, but none of them have proved to be conclusive. They were declared extinct in 1986

Its Thylasine - you could also run search on marsupial lions, giant kangaroos and extinct marsupials. That should yield some results. This is a large field of inquiry you realise? Perhaps you could shop around for a book on the evolutionary history of Marsupials.
