What is there to do (cities and in the countryside)? How are the people (are they nice, polite, etc.) How far of a drive am I to the mountains and beach from, say, Raleigh or Charlotte?

No offense, but I've heard fellow Texans who have moved to NC complain about how the people there are horrible. I guess they are just used to the openness and warmness of Texas. I've never had any bad experiences in NC, though.

I didnt have a problem with it. Lived there for 7 yrs. There are nice & rude people no matter where u go. Just gotta get used to that.
Raleigh & Charlotte are both busy cities. I guess one couldnt get bored there. Search for the mountain parks or the beaches online to see how far you are from them.
I am in texas rite now & there are some rude people here too.

I am a transplant to NC and LOVE it! I have lived in CA, WA (grew up in WA) and NY. And, although there are things in the other states that I love and miss I prefer NC. As others have said, there are good and bad about every location....unfortunately, this includes the people. However, overall I find the people VERY friendly!
If you are looking for a place close to the ocean and mountains with mild weather and friendly people, NC may just be what you are looking for.

NC is a beautiful state. Lots of things to do. Cherokee Indian Reservation, Chimney Rock, Biltmore House, & Maggie Valley are just a few of the spots you should visit.

I don't suppose you're going to change your life by the answering experts here.
My brother lives there and says it's the most beautiful place and a little redneck. He met a guy who talked about members of his family looking alike. He said, "Yup. My fambly tree don't have no branches!"
