but claim to be "latinos"? And why do so many of you are so dumb that think that latino is a race? What do you know about Latin America beside that's it's the land of your parents/ grandparents/ great grandparents?

Sorry to those descendants of Latin Americans that honour where they come from, this question is not for you.

Brazilians that are descendants of Africans, Japaneses, Germans, Italians, etc don't claim to be African, Japanese, German, Italian, so why do you say you're latino?

Yes jussagirl, and I'm white but they (the US) say I'm not white cause I come from Brazil (^?? what ??) And even some "latinos" censures me, only the "latinos" from the US, obviously, cause they're the only "latinos" that believe in the "latino race". And they talk as if they're specialists in Latin America, a place where they have never put their foot.

I am an american born person with latin american parents. I always tell people that i have white right and brown skin. The reason i am latino is because When ever i fill out a application of any type i am asked my ethnicity and the only choice i have is latino or hispanic. The other choice says " White (non hispanic)" So i am latino because Everyone says that i am. I have traveled to my parents country of origin and like them very much.

Most get confused by the words latino, hispanic, chicano, mexican, spanish and can't tell which means what.

But to answer you, Latino is a term is used to refer to people originating from Latin America AS WELL AS having a heritage related to Latin America!!! Their family is from Latin America, that is their culture and they ARE Latino's!!! Of course all Latinos are proud of their culture that's why they call themselves Latino's. If they weren't, they wouldn't call themselves that! So, who is this question for then?

Why do people say thay are German and have never been to germany, etc...??? It's their family history and they should be proud of it!!! Just because you are born here does not mean you deny where you came from. Why are people called white? That's a better question.... Brush up on the topic yourself...

Latino (and the form Latina for females), as used in American English, generally refers to a United States national of Latin American descent, especially Hispanic American heritage.[1] It is a word borrowed from Spanish latino, shortened from latinoamericano

It's silly to me, but it seems as long as you speak Spanish you're Latino, despite your race.

It's something I will never understand.

People do the same thing to me... simply because I am from Jamaica, I am no longer Black. That small fact changes my race to "Jamaican." However, I am a Black woman from Jamaica. I am both, not either or.
