I'm living in China right now, just over in Xiamen teaching English and when I came here I did not think Taiwan is part of China. How could it be, it has it's own government, military, and China has no control over it.
But after being here for a while I understand how they say it is part of China. So, I believe that it is part of China and one of the best things Taiwan can do is to accept it and push for a policy just like that in Hong Kong. I understand I am hardly qualified to matter, but that's what I think.

I'm from Taiwan originally and I still consider myself Chinese. While I may not agree with the current government in charge of the People's Republic of China, I still consider myself Chinese because we in Taiwan share the same culture, we all speak Chinese of one dialect or another and we share the same history (right up until 1949).
Yes, Taiwan is a part of China, though I would like to see Taiwan's government continue to be run separately from China's.
Excellent question!
I feel I also must add, my family are longtime KMT (or Chinese Nationalist Party), members so I am biased in my opinions on this question.

I have been living and working here and studying both sides interpretations of history and speaking with people here for almost 7 years.
I do not think taiwan is part of china. Nobody here wants to see them here. Plus, where do these chinese geniuses think they will fit if they come. There is no room left for them its all concrete now from the fleeing KuoMindang! The KuoMinDang already used up the island with your stolen cash they brought with em. You can have them back, if you want a bunch of geriatric Chin-azis back to weigh down your country and steal more of your tax money.
If china wants its money back, guess what. Shut up and keep being nice and following international rules, and the KuoMinDang investors will keep right on feeding that cash back to your country and helping all the chinese people that China's government failed to take care of or help, get better lives. This way, they and people like you can join in discussions like this on the internet, without taiwan's computer technology and parts and engineers, none of what you are looking at would exist anyways (at least not the way we know it now.)

Hi,
First you have to understand that there is no China .
There is a country called the People's Republic of China P.R.C. - Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo (where you stay) and there is another territory known as The Republic of China R.O.C.- Zhonghua Minguo
The Taiwan Province is a part of the ROC. The ROC is NOT a part of the PRC nor has the PRC had any jurisdiction in the ROC since the CCP separated the territory they held from the ROC in 1949 and renamed itself the PRC.

I have lived and worked in Taiwan for six years - and you know something? I have met only two people who thought that Taiwan is part of China. One of them said that they just HAVE TO unite. When I asked why, he said because China is bigger and stronger.
Most of the Taiwanese people came to the island between 200 and 250 years ago to escape the local Chinese warlords. This story is vaguely familiar because it has a parallel with what happened across the Atlantic ocean. Fortunately, the US did not get invaded by the likes of Chiang Kai Shek after the second world war.
Well, there you have another viewpoint.

Historically,Taiwan has never been under the control of any government based in China. It has mostly been a frontier for people who wanted to escape Chinese rule, like Hakkas who were forbidden from owning land in China but could do so quite freely in Taiwan. It's ludicrous that the powers in China pretend to themselves that Taiwan is a part of their country, but they're certainly not discouraged from living out this fantasy by other patronizing governments who are unwilling to spell out the facts to China for fear of losing out financially. It's also ludicrous that the population in China has allowed itself to be brainwashed into believing that their 'superior' motherland rightfully encompasses Taiwan,Tibet and Xinjiang. This may sound a tad subjective, but on an objective level,a sound democratic system of government in Taiwan makes it no more a part of China than Singapore,or even Malawi,is.

In all countries, history is taught as rulers wish. To know and understand different aspects (truth? - you can never be sure) of history, you have to read history written by people of other countries. And before coming to a belief, you must judge that without prejudice. Also forget for a while that you are a citizen of your country. Most of Indians believe that China has always been an invader and can never be trusted. But if they think as if they were Chinese, they would think otherwise! In history, Poland is such a country that has been shifted entirely on another land to western side. Now can they claim that our original land should be given back to us? So my friend, before coming to a conclusion about Taiwan, think of their belief also.

hm, two questions in one. I think Taiwan is a very beautiful country--I've visited there and their beaches and resorts are just beautiful! I would recommend anyone to visit Taiwan for vacation. The people there are very nice to foreigners, and always eager to strike up friendly conversations. I don't think that Taiwan is part of China because they have their own president, their own flag, they don't pay taxes to China...and it's a more prosperous country (per area) than China so why would they want to be part of China and be dragged down to economic depression?!

If you want to really know about India, you can surf on the internet .
You can read Indian e-newspapers.
Also, you can visit India for better view.
For your information, our Nations Father Mahatma Gandhi before entering into the Freedom movment, moved all over the India.
Visitng Mumbai, or any major cities, you can have an idea about India.
Never make any opinions based on political issues.
For me, Taiwan is a political issue, for which I can not comment. But, as an Indian, I have to agree for the Govt. Of India's foreign affairs decesion.

NOPE.
And how do I think about Taiwan?
I am not 100% happy with this people even they are good ppl. I like Taiwanese BUT they just need to wake up more.
At the restaurant I ask to bring some sauce to me for SIX times and this Taiwanese keep smiling n " OH yes yes" and never bring it. and I get upset I just shout at them walked away. It ruined my appetite and that night as well.
This story is just part of iceberg. Hilarious.
Taiwanese of mentality is just not good enough for me to be happy with them.
But still I like Taiwanese and I like their culture and many other things.
Well... I am not in my own country. so... ;)
And I never thought Taiwan is part of China.
Good day.
