I have a static electricity problem and it is driving me nuts. I am constantly shocking things around me and worst of all I keep shocking my dog (once on her eye). Hes bed is full of faux fur blankets and I think she is getting a chare from them. Anyways what are some general rules/ways to get rid of static?

Humidifiers or air moisturizers can reduce staic electricity dramatically. Short of getting one of those, a little water sprayed around the house in a squirt bottle can also help.

If you dont want to pay for a humidifier, fill a pot or saucepan with water and let it steam on the stove-- the steam will have the same effect as a humidifier.

Dryer sheets work well for quick fixes- in the dryer helps some, but you can also rub a sheet directly on your hair, clothing, dog, or whatever has a static-cling to it.

Put a fabric sheet in your shoes.
They sell static guard at Wal-Mart.
Turn clothes INSIDE OUT to spray them (because that is where the static electricity is between your body and the garmet.
Lotion on your skin before dressing works also.

Most static electricity is caused by very dry air. Adding a humidifier to your room would be very helpful. Don't over dry clothes or doggies blankets' in clothes dryer. janeyw
