Get a kiddie pool. The ones you get cheap at walmart that are formed plastic.
It's perfect to hold water and has enough room for full grown turtles. It's deep enough for fish too.
Use cement blocks, ceramic or stone tiles, decorative rocks, or other cement like products to make islands.
The turtle's UV light will keep plants alive. Grass growing on the islands would be cool.

First off, is your water turtle the vegie type, or the meat type? If you have the vegie type, and hope to heaven you do. Or that little fellow will be eating your fish stock, or be taking bites out of their fins. Do like I did. At the fish stores they sellfloating islands.Put the island in first, then fill your tank to the depth you want your tank, and prestoe you have a nice place for your turtle to eat, rest, and even take a nice little nap, with your fishs just swimming around. But also make sure your fish are larger than your turtles mouth.Thank you for listening to an old lady.

Please make sure before you buy a water turtle that you know what you're getting into. These little guys can grow to be a foot long in some cases and will require tanks on the upside of 100-150 gallons when they're grown. They also live for a very long time, need special supplements, UVA/UVB lighting bulbs, basking bulbs, and a really high-powered filter. You will be committing to spending hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars on them, trust me.

That being said, you can buy docks for turtles. ZooMed makes a good one that comes in 3 sizes and they can be found at most pet stores.

Check out my website on the proper care of water turtles. I made it because so few people know what they are getting into. Good luck! www.geocities.com/radiofemme/turtles

Get the biggest tank you have room for. Get a low, wide one instead of a tall one.
You can build the land up in the corners using driftwood and rocks or purchase a floating island like in the link below.
Then fill it to you desired depth, and fish, plants, and turtles.

I had a 50gal tank with 2 painted turtles. I used a simple filter that hangs off the back and it never seem to bother the turtles to have this waterfall. I bought feeder fish at the bait shop and kept them in the tank with the turtles for them to eat.

You'll need a fairly large tank. Simply pile rocks on on side of the tank. Make sure it's stable, so the turtle can actually climb up onto it. Then make sure the top is relatively flat. That's where the heat lamp should be focused, as well.

Here's some good info on all aspects of water turtle care.

Good luck with your turtle! They are really neat creatures.

Since turtles eat fish, why do you want to do this?

Instead of a mixed tank, it is easier to do an aquatic tank with a basking site- a log or ramp for the turtle.
