Stage an alien invasion. It sounds completely stupid, but if people recognize that we are all in danger of extermination, they'll pull together. Ironically enough, we would be attaining peace through hatred. The best way to unite people is to give them a common hatred. If we could divert that hatred to aliens that do not exist (at least not anywhere near us), we may save ourselves.

I would teach what the Dali Lama teaches, that we must learn to love ourselves and to love others as we love ourselves. If every person could learn to love and honor him/herself, it would be impossible to pull the trigger or drop the bomb on another. If you truly honor yourself, you cannot take the life of another.

I would use propaganda and brainwash to keep the people happy and calm. Then I would destroy anyone who disagrees with me.
