Quite simple really. They don't really 'sit' on the egg but rather, squat over it - their legs support most of their weight. The nesting materials provide further cushion. Combine all this with the fact that the underside of the chicken is rather 'V' shaped and you can easily see why chickens lay eggs and not omelets...

The oval shape of the egg is the main reason for its strength. In its normal position ( pointed ends horizontally) when we apply force vertically, the egg no doubt will brake. But if the pointed ends are vertical and placed properly, it is already proved that 4 such can take several kgs of weight. so even if the hen sit on the eggs it can withstand the weight of the hen . Also hen know how to sit on the top of the eggs .

An egg cant be broken even by a human when we apply force on it along its length, as you may have seen we break eggs by hitting them in the middle n not at the ends. A hen sits on eggs at their tips and it also sits not on just one but three to four eggs, so first of all its very difficult to break it on that side n secondly net weight of hen is spread over all the eggs. I think that explains ur curiosity.

Carefully.
Actually, an eggshell is comparatively quite strong, and can resist a great deal of pressure . Secondly, no weight can be subjected to the hen's full weight unless she happens to step on it. Then there is enough force concentrated in a small area to sometimes crack the egg, but in all seriousness, hens are usually quite careful when "setting".
Edit:
Kataxenna makes the good point that hens are careful not to lower bony parts of their bodies onto the egg(s).

they have been appearing this feat for a while, guess they have a knack of keeping the eggs heat with out at as quickly as conveying the completed bodyweight directly to the eggs, may be a variety out weight distribution.Sorry, yet it is not any concrete information.I easily have used broody hens for an prolonged time to incubate eggs & have regularly questioned & marveled at this feat.Egg shells not on top of things,do supply way & give way, making extremely a multitude of the nest & different eggs,i spend it sluggish heavily analyzing the eggs for flaws before picking a batch for incubation.
