my friend stupidly slept with her ex on Dec 4, 2007. she is now saying that she is 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant. is it possible that it is not her ex's child. i did the math and got Nov 28 as being 6 weeks and 2 days, and then went back another 4 days because it can take between 3-5 days after intercourse to become pregnant. so that puts her around nov 24, 2007 does this sound right, or should she be worried that it is her ex's child?

When they figure out your due date, they are adding the first 2 weeks or so where she really wasn't pregnant- the 2 weeks before ovulation (or conception) They don't really know the conception date. Anyways, those weeks are part of the 40 week term, even though she wasn't pregnant at that time. She will also have a vaginal ultrasound where they measure the baby (around 9-12 weeks) and that will almost definately tell you the actual due date. Count back 40 weeks from that, and then add 14 days (or whenever you think she was ovulating) You can really never tell unless the mother only had sex once.

It doesn't take 3-5 days after intercourse to become pregnant. Most sperm are only alive 24-48 hours. It will take a few days after she missed her period for a urine screen to test positive, though.

This is a place for help, NOT criticism. I'm sure there are circumstances to why her friend did what she did..we really shouldn't be judging others and their choices.

Anyway, your friend needs to see an OBGYN asap. Embryo's during the first trimester all experience the same milestones at the same time, so a doctor will be able to tell you the exact date of conception by the measurements of your embryo. However, you HAVE to go before you hit 12 weeks.

Unless you've conceived your child via assisted reproductive technology (insemination or in vitro fertilization) it is impossible to date a pregnancy that way if you've had sex more than once within a menstrual cycle.

It is possible, if your friend was having sex with someone else at the end of November/beginning of December that the fetus she is carrying was parented by that other man, but knowing for certain is going to require paternity testing after the baby is born.

I wouldn't waste your time....she obviously doesn't care. She would have been working on the math herself.

If she doesn't know when she had her period, and doesn't think about sleeping with 2 guys around the same time, how can she remember what day she banged who? Again, you shouldn't waste your time doing her homework for her.

At this point, she will need to give birth, then do a paternity test. Jerry Springer material.

Only way to tell gestation is with ultrasound. Unless she's sleeping around a lot, the father should not be in question regardless of conception dates.
