I will be visiting San Francisco, so I am not familiar with the area. I would especially love to find an authentic argila (also known as sheesha and hookah) cafe. Any info on middle eastern (preferably Egyptian) restaurants and grocery would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

There are many excellent Middle Eastern restaurants and grocery stores in San Francisco and in the Bay Area. There is a good restaurant guide (Zagat) that lists restaurants as evaluated by contributors.

There is also a publication put out by the telephone company (Pacific Bell in San Francisco) which is a directory of businesses. It is called "The Yellow Pages," and it lists the names, addresses and phone numbers of virtually every business. You would look under "Restaurants" or "Grocery Stores" to find listings. The Restaurant section also has listings by ethnic type. You would probably do best to look under "Mediterranen."

Also, once you are in SF, or even now, via Amazon.com, you can find guidebooks for SF. Also, ask individuals in SF for their suggestions - food is a favorite topic here.

Your problem once you are here won't be to find restaurants and grocery stores; it will be to choose among the options.
