It's just something that's always bugged me...and I forgot if it's legal or illegal. So is it illegal? And if it is, what are the charges or the "punishment"?

Yes it is illegal as your stealing music..I'm not sure what the penalty is ! Lime wire although popular is a dangerous program
as your allowing the whole world to look into your computer and it is possible you could be used for other illegal purposes with out knowledge.. DOWNLOAD MUSIC LEGALLY AND HAVE A CLEAR CONSCIENCE !

if the song is copyrighted, it is illegal. Penalty is highly unlikely, but can be a civil-judgement in court.
