On rap im not referring to the garbage out today, im talking old school when it had originality and real lyrics. In my opinion rap is the best lyrically and rock is the best instrumentally. But i probably like REAL rap better. Anyway what's your opinion?

First off I wanna say that rap is not all garbage today, most people think that rap is garbage is because of what they hear on the TV or radio and yes most of that is garbage, what people aren't hearing is all of the other rap they don't play on TV and garbage that is where its at. The difference between rap and rock lyrics are rap lyrics explain what is going on in there life and there surroundings. So the main reason rap lyrics are about killing,drugs,gangs and all that that is because that's what there life is about it doesn't meant that rapper does any of that its just they were brought up around all of that.
Also you cant compare rap and rock together they are completely different.

Agreed. The rap nowadays is complete garbage. These record labels are just paying your average "thug" money to make garbage lyrics about the same washed up topic about women, money, and the streets. BUT, there is good rap (I prefer to call it hip-hop, well the good rap). Some artists include; Common, De La Soul, Common, Talib Kwali, Camp Lo, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye (His older songs), etc. Nowadays, I'm beginning to grow into Alternative Rock, it's just so smooth and nice to listen to.

The best rap groups... always SING as well. Rap tends to have the melody in the bass line, and is "done in fours". Some of their bass lines are amazing.
Rock is an entirely different style, but after Aerosmith and Run DMC got together, the forms mixed. I prefer rock, and rock does have more emphasis on fiery guitar riffs, etc. Comparing the two is still like comparing apples to pineapples - what you like depends on you.

Rock. Some rap songs are good lyrically, but even most heavy metal songs have lighter lyrics than most rap songs. in my opinion, rap songs kill people. Just listen to the song "Ghost Rider". Kids try it. Kids die trying it. End of story. Rap sucks

i agree that rock is better musically. i mean, u got all these things put together, it's amazing. lyrically, i dont have a lot of infrmation about rap to decide, but from all that i hear, i ahve to give it to rock too. i mean, there are some garbage rock lyrics out there but if u hear the right band, the lyrics can change your life.

i haven't listened to plenty classic rap till now, yet what I surely have heard isn't all approximately nailing ladies, getting funds, and dealing with drugs. It surely skill something. Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin are greater my factor, even with the indisputable fact that.

to me, either old or the new rap is too complicated. old fashioned rock is more into the poetic lines to me than rap
