If you have Microsoft Publisher, you are as good as done with your website already. It offers features to go right away..Choose a design from the list and main buttons you want to have such as home, about us, products etc..and fill the boxes with whatever content you want to have in your site..Intermittently you can view your site as you develop..Once done, you will find "publish your website" option under file menu. This will create two objects for you: one an index.htm file and another a folder index_files.htm. Click index file to see if it opens in your Internet Explorer or any other web client you might have.
You need to upload these two objects to the domain you would have already registered ! such as www.mywebsite.com and hired a hosting server. The hosting agency would have given you a user name and password to manage your website through remote login using your web client. Your host window will have upload options.
Once done uploading, your site becomes available to the world!

It depends on what kind of website you want.
We have come to a point where almost no technical expertise is required to put up a website. Some sites even allow to publish a sizeable webpage (photos, text and or videos) for free.
First, you might want to decide what kind of website it'll be.
* If you want a dairy-like website, where you tell the world what's going on in your life and around your circle of closest friends, you might want to consider a blog. Try blogger.com
* If you want an ecommerce site, capable of online transactions, you might want to try paypal.com or some of ebay's stores, or Yahoo! merchant services.
* If you need an old-style page (HTML "static" pages that you update on some periodical basis) you might want to try Yahoo Geocities and choose one of their publishing tools.
* Elsewhere, there are the community sites like hi5 or MySpace, which also allow you to have a website and some blogging capabilities.
* Finally, if your page is about a scientific topic of interest targeted to some specialised audience, you might want to consider your own wiki at wikipedia.com
