A hamster by any other name...
All large hamsters sold in pet stores are Syrians with different names according to markings.
Typically a Black Bear is a black Syrian, a Panda Bear is a Black and White Syrian, a Fancy Hamster is a short haired hamster, a Teddy Bear is a long haired hamster, etc.
These are all Syrian hamsters with different names to signify their coat type or color.
A Dwarf hamster can be one of several breeds sold in pet stores.
See our list below for some basic info on the different types of hamsters.

Syrian Hamster (Mesocricetus auratus): Aka: The Golden hamster, the Black Bear hamster, The Teddy Bear hamster, and the Fancy hamster. It can have several different color and coat types. This is the most common pet hamster. It reaches lengths of 6-7 inches. Also has expandable cheek pouches which can carry up to half its weight in food and/or bedding. This hamster is solitary, and will fight or even kill another hamster in its territory. Its average life span is 2½ - 4 years. They tend to make the best pet hamsters for children because of their docile nature, and easiness to tame.

Chinese Hamster (Cricetus Griseus): The mouse-like hamster from Northern China and Mongolia. Their size is 10-12cm in length. They can be flighty, but have friendly temperments. Greyish- brown fur with a dark stripe down its back, they also have longer tails than other hamsters. Their life span is 2-3 years, and they live comfortably in social colonies.

Campbell's Russian Dwarf (Phodopus campbelli): Aka: Siberian and Russian hamster. This hamster is origionally from the deserts of Asia, Mongolia, and northeastern China. Dwarf hamster with a dorsal stripe. Approx 8-10cm in length. They typically live 1½ - 2 years, and do well in social groups. This dwarf is the most common dwarf sold in pet stores.

Winter White or Siberian Dwarf (Phodopus sungorus): Aka: Siberian and Russian hamster. Originally from Siberia and Kazakhstan. Their size is typically 8-10 cm in length. Very similar to the Campbell's Russian Hamster in size and appearance and the two are often confused. In colder weather they can moult their coat into a white color. They live 1½ - 2 years, or longer, and they do well in social groups.

Roborovski Hamster (Phodopus roborovskii): Originally from Mongolia and Northern China. Their size is 4-5 cm in length which makes them the smallest of the common pet hamsters. Their small size and jumpy nature can make them hard to handle, but they tend to be very sweet. Characterised by their distinctive white 'eyebrows.' Roborovskis can live 3 - 3½ years and has a longer life span than most hamsters. They also live well in same sex social groups.

Hamsters live (more or less,) about 2 years. I owned a hamster named Therman, and had him from January '04 to March '06.
A friend told me to get another hamster b4 Thermie passed away, and I did. I got Hammie, a Black Bear hamster, the day b4 Thermie died.
You probably have about another year, maybe a year and a half with ur current hamsters, but don't be surprised if they die b4 turning 2 years old.
They sound cute, though! U probably own an Albino hamster of some sort (with the red eyes,) and a Black Bear. Black bear hamsters have black/brown fur and are sometimes white underneath.
The best thing that u can do is make sure they get plenty of exercise. Buy them each a wheel. Oh, and also get them each chewsticks. That will keep their incisors (teeth,) in good shape. Also feed them un-dry food, like carrots, lettuce, and walnuts. NEVER FEED THEM CITRUS FRUITS OR ALMONDS!!!
Ok, that's all I got. I hope I've helped u. And good luck!

short hair hamster, teddy bear hamster, long hair hamster, panda bear hamster, honey bear hamster, black bear hamster, calico hamster, tortise shell hamster, dalmation hamster...

these are all breeds of Syrian Hamsters, which is what petsmart sells. Your white hamster sounds like a short haired syrian hamster. However, your other hamster sounds like a russian dwarf hamster by the color. If the hamster is larger with a long body and fills up your hand, then they are syrian. If your hamster is the size of a fifty cent piece hand has a short, fat body and almost no neck, then it's a dwarf hamster. winter white, russian, robovorsky, blackberry (black russian), blueberry (blue russian), and raspberry (red or grizzle russian) are all dwarf hamsters petsmart sells.

the lifespan of a male syrian hamster is 1-4 years. the lifespan of a russian is 1-1 1/2 to 2 years.

The fact that they were sold to you to live separately means they are most probably Syrian hamsters. These are the larger breed, often known as Golden Hamsters. Most of the dwarf breeds do well in colonies, so long as they are introduced soon enough, regardless of sex, while the Syrians are solitary creatures, and all need to have their own cage.

I concur that 2-3 years would be a normal life-span. Please be aware that your pets are nocturnal, and do not disturb them during the day!

Hope you have lots of fun with them!

Neither! it relatively is a approaches too massive of a team to debate! A properly bred purebred would be healthiest. THe breeders study pedigrees and do lots of well-being screening. they are in a position to evade issues that arise in that breed. As for poorly bred dogs- mutts and poorly bred purebred- it relies upon on that concern. some mutts could be greater efficient off than very inbred purebreds, yet some purebreds nonetheless could be greater efficient off because of the fact the mutts must be from those inbred dogs and then they have the possibility of ailments for 2 breeds rather of one! there's no foundation to asserting that mutts are greater healthy. they arrive from the right comparable inventory as all those purebreds with a "smaller gene pool", why ought to they magically be greater healthy purely in view which you randomly mixed the genes? good well-being comes from making plans, which demands a usually happening meaning purebred and good breeders. shield dogs are super, yet do no longer purely get one in view which you think of it is going to be greater healthy because of the fact it jsut isn't real.

Hamsters generally live 4 to 6 years, although I've had one live to 12 years old. If they are short haired, they are probably teddy bear hamsters. They are the most popular breed.

Post a pic and I could tell you what kind they are. Any kind they are 5 years old would be OLD age. Generally 3-4 for regulars, 2-3 for dwarfs (different species.)
