Last time around the democrats had a great chance to choose Howard Dean as thier candidate. He was fresh thinking, visionary, charismatic, and brilliant. But, sadly, they focused on early poll numbers and perceptions and went the route of party establishment. They could not have found a more boring candidate than John Kerry.

Will they do this again?

They have a few good choices this time around.

Will they blow it again? Or take a gamble on someone who can inspire the electorate and bring real change?

As if said in response to numerous questions, Bill Richardson has the best shot, if he runs.

Richardson has repeatedly shown his ability to negotiate and work across party lines. He is pragmatic and easily wins votes and hearts. He is charismatic and has a down-home, friendly and warm persona.

His unrivaled success on the international stage as a Congressman, UN Ambassador, and hostage negotiator(Even GWB has called on his services!) have shown his ability to navigate our complicated world. Just recently, he was a major player in securing a 60-day ceasefire in Darfur.

His service as Two-term Governor of New Mexico and Secretary of Energy gives him the executive experience the job demands, as well as energy policy know-how needed to address our current energy woes.

Electorally, we can expect record Hispanic turnout (Not all Hispanics are illegals; plenty are voting, American citizens). As the popular Governor of New Mexico, he can easily take the West and Southwest, a total of 50-some electoral votes. His moderate views can win him undecideds and moderate Republicans, especially if it comes down to Mccain or Romney (Mccain is hated in many circles and some are uncomfortable with a Mormon candidate).

Overall, Bill Richardson is clearly our best shot at breaking the tradition of white males in the White House.

I think Al Gore should be the one.

He understands the serious reforms that are needed environmental, energy independence, budgetary, foreign policy, health care, it goes on and on. And unlike some, he isn't afraid to speak his mind and take a clear position on the Iraq situation. Calling it for what it is, the "worst strategic mistake in the entire history of the United States." He understands the situation Iraq presents and securing Iraq is a priority. Getting out during the process is also.

His experience should be considered as well. He was VP as this country lifted itself from the financial deficits left by the prior two presidencies during our most prosperous era . He has a great mind and will bring others on board. Instead of old rubber stamp cronies who served on the "board".

I think Gore has always had integrity and in recent times has shown the to be the most courageous. This is exactly whats needed to step up and repair the damage thats been done. He speaks truth and calls a lie a lie.

They better pick someone who can inspire middle America or he / she will meet the same fate as Gore and Kerry. Clinton won because he appealed to a broader swath of the country than just the ultra-liberal northeast and west and the hard-core blue collar union voters.

If Auntie Margaret and Uncle Harold in Des Moines, IA think the candidate is an idiot, it won't matter what the young cognoscenti in Berkeley and Harvard think!

Best bet right now is Hillary with a reworked image (she'd better learn to bake cookies), or experience-challenged Obama as a longshot in the image of a young JFK.

Gore, Kerry or Dean would be DOA...forget it.

In order to have a good Democratic Party you would have to throw out 50 to 60 percent of the ones that are in there.

This is going to be exciting for us Democrats-I just hope we do not screw it up again. I like Obama, but, I think he needs a little more experience. Dean is good too. Maybe it'll work this time. It'll be fun to watch. AS LONG AS EVERYONE TAKES THE TIME TO VOTE.

I am just waiting past all the malarkey to see if Hillary wins. Not saying I want her....but then it would go along with Revelations about how a "woman is riding the beast". Everyone already knows America is the beast mentioned.

To me...when a woman comes president....we are doomed as it will be very near Armageddon.

Dean is too hot headed! No way would people in their right mind vote for him!!!
But your right about Kerry!
Who knows I'm sure that Hillary will find a way to run!
But she has too many enemies to win!

Barack Obama for President and Hillary Clinton for Vice President!!!!!!!!! that would be the best team in US history. Just thinking about all of the wisdom they have about politics is great. I think the US would be much better if they both won. And if Hilary Clinton win i think she would choose Barack Obama for Vice President.

Sorry, don't agree with Dean. I voted for Edwards. This time around hope it's Obama and Edwards or vice versa.
