WOW this is a great question and I really think you will see a variety of answers, just becasue people are moved and impressed by different things.
My initial response would be Sandra Day OConnor, just becuase as the first woman to sit on the Supreme COurt, she showed many girls and women that ANYTHING is possible and our sex should not be a barrier to get the job we desire, deserve and are qualified for.

Without a doubt History will teach you Golda Mayer...
she was a woman that stood up for what she believed and fought an entire world to stop terrorism and the innocent killing of children. If I could spend one hour in history with any one person it would be her....Golda Mayer said it best when she said....When the Palestinian terrorists love there children more than they hate Israel, there will be peace in the middle east!
Her life makes the movie MUNICH seem like a Disney cartoon...That's how much turmoil she fought against...

Eleanor Roosevelt
"Eleanor Roosevelt's influence and stature have continued to grow. Today she remains a powerful inspiration to leaders in both the civil rights and women's movements.
Eleanor shattered the ceremonial mold in which the role of the First Lady had traditionally been fashioned, and reshaped it around her own skills and her deep commitment to social reform. She gave a voice to people who did not have access to power. She was the first woman to speak in front of a national convention, to write a syndicated column, to earn money as a lecturer, to be a radio commentator and to hold regular press conferences"

Pocahantis, and Sacajawea, (lewis and clark expedition) pocahantis was the Native that helped John Smith, and his merry men. And without Sacajawea you would not have the Northwest territory ever. Because all the foreign governments were on their way through Canada, and the little squaw took a liking to one of the white men, remember? Good old Thomas Jefferson what a brilliant man. I think that does it for my votes.

First Lady Betty Ford . She inspired honesty & decency at a time when many were ashamed to seek help for medicinal dependancies . Many who would not have sought help other-wise , were inspired to do do - thus countless lives have been saved . Betty Ford Centers are still saving lives because of her . A fine lady .

Hm-mm...I would have to say Lindsay Lohan because she has taught us all the things we should not do in both regular and celebrity life.
For real, I think it was the woman( for the life of me I can't remember her name) who pushed for abortion to become a legal act. To convince all the people, that now do it, that it was okay, must have been hard. Because of her influence and belief in abortion it now happens everyday. That is pretty influential.

in modern times would say Amelia Earhart because she represented the " independent woman " who was going out into the world of men in airplanes. She was an accomplished aviator ix, poet and writer who inspired the ladies to break out and do what they wanted instead of leaving the adventure to the male gender.
