im 39 weeks pregnant, i had my membrains stripped today and have been bleeding lightyly ever since. but i just had a big blob of darkish blood come out of me. am i close to labor. i have also been having cramps in my lower stomach.

Relax honey. Losing your plug just means your cervix is thinning a bit and you may be starting to dilate more. It can also reform and you will lose it again closer to or while in labor. If you've just had your membranes stripped (ouch), then your cervix is rather irritated at the invasion. Just relax and let things go. You're only 39 weeks. Enjoy this time with just you and baby!
On another note, if your bleeding increases a lot, call your doctor back and let them know.

It is different for every woman. My friend had her membranes stripped and went into labor before she got home, however mine were stripped at 36 and 38 weeks and I went through the same thing you mention here.(spotting at first, then pieces of my mucos plug, cramping,etc.) You can lose pieces of your mucos plug for weeks. I drove my doctor insane with all the calls. I had my son on my due date. My doctor told me to go to the hospital when your contractions are 8 to 10 minutes apart if its your first child and 3 to 5 minutes apart if its second.If your water breaks go there immediately. I did not have one contraction until 30 minutes after my water broke but then they came on very strong and 2 to 3 minutes apart. For now I would just sit back and relax, you need all the rest you can get. My daughter is 4 years and my son is 4 months and both pregnancies and births were totally different. If you are 39 weeks, you are probably going to go through labor soon anyway.
Are you leaking fluid? That is more of an indicator of when you will go into labor. Once that happens you have to contact the doc!
My friend lost her mucus plug, and she dilated to 3, and didn't go into labor for another 2 WEEKS.
Labor pains are up a little higher. Sounds like you have braxton hicks contractions. That is okay too.

omg-I had a cervix exam yesterday & that happened to me today
(tmi-sorry, but gobs and gobs came out, blech-it was soo gross)
my doc told me to expect it though--and go to the hosp only if my water breaks or if contractions are 5-6 minutes apart.
(you can lose your plug or have bloody show for weeks before actually going into labor)
Ive been having the cramping too in my lower belly, but that isnt 'real' contractions--the ones we are looking for are the ones that take over your entire belly/ab area.
Im 38 weeks and 4 days along.
congrats though-it wont be long now.

Yep your getting close, probably in the next week or so. Your starting to thin out , its gross but thats what happens. Stay close to home and have people around or near by. Good luck w/ your new baby!!!!
