Depends how old they are. My 12 year old is fussy about the length and wants to grow it long. I won't allow him to because of his age.
My older son, 16 has hair that is short-medium length.
My 18 year old has hair down past his shoulders.
I feel this way, by 16, they should wear their hair the way they want to. if, it isn't a distraction at school.
A mohawk is a drastic style. I would refuse that too. It looks really stupid! Some kids dye them blue, how awful!: LOL
Just stick to you guns. Good luck. Isn't parenting fun?

tough question, i have a son nearly 14 and a girl just 12, her hair is good, his is , well its just there, you know gets out the shower and dries his hair then just shakes it.... done. Its not overly long but all the kids wear it that way. All i can say mate is just think back to when you were a kid and what you were thinking bout hair styles and your parents then (he he) and that will tell you, oh yea and i certainly would have put the foot down at the Mohawk

I agree as long as its not like a mohawk or something distracting to the public. I think you should let them get it cut how they want because its lets them have independence. If the hair cut turns out bad then they will suffer the consequences of thier own actions. All in all, if you let him get his hair cut then it will make him feel indepent which will help him later on in life.

i let my daughter decide how she wants her hair as long as it's appropriate for school. the rules at school are no colorants that are not natural. like green or purple. the only thing i really restrict is i make her use a wash out colorant. i won't allow her to use a permanent colorant till she's older.
i think its important for my daughter to learn the consequences of her choices. she chose one year to cut her very long hair into a pixie cut because her friends hair was cut that way. she decided she did not like it but had to live with it.
before she had it cut we talked about all the differences like not being able to do braids or pony tails or piggy tails, that she would basically have only one style she could do with a pixie cut. so her choices are informed but still hers to make. now when she decides to have more than a trim she does a lot of research by looking at magazines and photos on the net.
i think most people have some type of limits. mine is she can't shave her head.

ya it just depends what the style they want is and the age mainly. my mom used to let me do anything i wanted with a hair cut, but you know me being a girl you always want the typical cuts. now i would probably go for a bob... ,lol ya a mohawk would be a bit extreme but if it was a small one maybe just depends on age and style again.

I have to say it depends on the child. If he is a good student and respectful to adults, well mannered at home, trustworthy to let out of the house then I would have to say loosen the raigns or he'll decide to rebel and do things behind your back.
If he hangs out with the kids that wear all black, has slacking grades, doesn't have a clue what respect is, always trying to hide something or get away with stuff than I would have to say get a grip on him now before it is to late.

I say when i have kids, it is to a certain extent, if they want to get it medium cut, or shorter (for boys), knock em selves out, but no to growing it to your ankles or mohawks, it looks stupid
now for girls, whatever as long as its not a mohawk or really short or shaved off

I don't have a kid, but if I did, anything would be okay,
I think, except a Mohawk, and those stiff spiky things

My mom made me cut it the way she wanted it, which was hacking off my 3 foot long hair that I loved the most about myself. I was pretty young when she made me do it and I was so depressed about it for a long time.
